Protocol: Baseline to far free-throw line. Timing gates. Best of 2.

Basketball Kinetic Importance

This is the transition number — getting back on defence, beating the other team down the floor after a stop. It is deliberately not a full-court sprint: the last quarter of the court adds top-end speed that almost never gets used in a game, while the first three-quarters is mostly acceleration, which is used constantly.

Exact Execution Sequence

  1. 1Standing start at the baseline, no rocking or rolling start.
  2. 2Timing gate at the baseline starts the clock, gate at the far free-throw line stops it.
  3. 3Same two landmarks every combine, on the same floor.
  4. 4Best of two attempts.
What Gets an Attempt Disqualified or Re-Run

Strict execution ensures integrity. Disqualified reps are logged with reasons rather than deleted.

  • A moving start — the clock has to start from a stationary athlete.
  • Slowing down before the second gate.
  • A gate misfire, which staff re-run rather than record.
