Standing vertical

Basketball Kinetic Importance
The standing vertical is the cleanest read on lower-body power there is, because there is no technique or approach speed hiding in it. Rebounding in traffic, a contested finish, the second jump — those all start from a standstill rather than a run-up.
Exact Execution Sequence
- 1Standing reach is taken first. Everything else is measured from it.
- 2Feet planted, no step and no shuffle into the jump.
- 3Dip and arm swing are both allowed.
- 4Highest vane touched counts. Best of three attempts.
What Gets an Attempt Disqualified or Re-Run
Strict execution ensures integrity. Disqualified reps are logged with reasons rather than deleted.
- Any step, hop or shuffle before takeoff — that makes it a max vertical, not a standing one.
- Taking off from one foot.
- Brushing a vane on the way down.
